The most powerful thing you can do to improve your playing is to follow this formula when you practice:
1. Use the Magic Speed Limit on difficult passages – so you never play wrong notes.
2. Break passages down into smaller chunks that are easy to play correctly.
3. Before you play something again, give yourself Good Dopamine Hits by telling yourself 3 things you did well. This tells your brain what you want to do again and makes you feel great about practicing.
4. Don’t play the passage again until you decide on one specific thing you are going to improve. Make sure your brain has a clear goal.
That’s it!
If you follow this simple formula, you’ll have the foundation for improving your playing quickly and successfully. And you’ll magically enjoy practicing too!
